About the Training Center

The Electrician Apprentice Training Center is in New Castle, Pennsylvania, and serves Beaver, Lawrence, Mercer and Crawford Counties.

The building: Classrooms, labs and shop space. Classes are held at night
Who runs it: A committee of electricians and contractors appointed by IBEW Local Union 712 and the Western Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA)
Curriculum: The national curriculum of the electrical training ALLIANCE, used by IBEW apprenticeships across the country
Instructors: Local electricians who work in the field

What We Teach

Classes run through all five years.

Early years: How electricity works, the electrical code, conduit, drawings, meters, grounding, transformers, safety
Later years: Motors and controls, programmable controllers, building automation, instrumentation, fire alarm, data and low-voltage cabling, solar, security, health-care systems, lightning protection
