Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.

  • Have a high school diploma or GED.

  • Have successfully completed Algebra I or an approved equivalent.

  • Be a resident of Beaver, Lawrence, Mercer, or Crawford County.

  • Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.

  • Have reliable transportation.

High School Seniors

High school seniors may apply while still enrolled in school.

To be considered for selection, seniors must:

  • Be 18 years old by September 1

    Need to Meet the Math Requirement?

Applicants who do not meet the Algebra I requirement may complete the approved SkillsPrep math course to satisfy the

program's math requirement.

Required Steps for Applicants

The steps required in the application process for the apprenticeship are as follows:

Step 1: Apply for an Apprenticeship

To apply for apprenticeship, applicants must complete the online application and provide all required information and documentation.

Applicants should:

1. Create an online application account.

2. Complete all required application questions accurately and completely.

3. Upload any required documents during the application process.

4. Request that official high school transcripts, GED records, or post-secondary educational records be sent directly from the issuing institution to the JATC.

5. Provide proof of residency within Beaver, Lawrence, Mercer, or Crawford County.

6. Upload a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.

Applicants who are in the process of moving into the jurisdiction should provide a Pennsylvania driver's license and any

applicable address-change documentation issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).

Incomplete applications, missing documentation, or failure to provide requested information may delay processing of an application.

Step 2: Take the Aptitude Test Practice Here: STUDY

  • After you submit your application, we will reach out to schedule a date for your aptitude test. You must confirm your attendance within the timeframe specified in the correspondence.

  • The test consists of reading and math sections.

  • It is a timed test. Both parts are graded and then combined to create an overall test score, which is graded on a scale of 1 to 9.

  • You must receive a score of 4 or higher to qualify for an oral interview.

  • If you receive a score of 3 or lower, you did not qualify for an interview and will need to retake the aptitude test. You cannot be rescheduled to retake this aptitude test for three months from the original test date.

Step 3: Participate in the Interview Process. If you have a qualifying score on your aptitude test

  • We will contact you to schedule a date for your interview. You must confirm your attendance within the timeframe specified in the correspondence. Failure to confirm your interview may result in losing your spot on the interview schedule.

  • Arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled interview.

  • Dress appropriately.

  • Ask questions if you have any.

  • After all interviews are concluded, you will be notified whether you have been accepted into our apprenticeship program.

Step 4: Selection and Post-Selection Requirements

Qualified applicants are considered according to the JATC's approved selection procedures.

Individuals selected for apprenticeship must complete all required post-selection requirements prior to registration, including:

  • Physical examination

  • Drug screening

  • Additional program requirements, if applicable

Detailed instructions will be provided to selected applicants.
