Join West Penn P&P Federal Credit Union

West Penn P&P is the credit union in Beaver that took over IBEW Local 712’s credit union in 2020. This page tells you who can join, what the membership card asks for, and where to take it. Nothing is collected here — you sign the card with the credit union, not with us.

What it costs

There is no application fee and no membership fee. What you need is money in the account — and it is your money, not theirs.

$50 To open the account The initial deposit on a share (savings) account. This is your share — it buys your membership and it stays yours.
$100 To keep in the account The balance the credit union asks you to maintain in savings once the account is open. Plan on this, not just the $50.

No charge for

  • Monthly service on savings
  • Monthly service on checking
  • Visa debit card
  • ATMs on the MoneyPass and CU$ networks
  • Opening or maintaining an IRA
  • Phone and internet account access

Checking pays interest on balances over $100. These figures come from the credit union’s own website — confirm them when you open the account, since terms change.

Check that you qualify

Who can join

“All employees of participating companies, retirees and, members of your immediate family.”

West Penn P&P FCU — About Us

Immediate family covers spouses, children, siblings, parents, grandparents, grandchildren, step-relations and adoptive relationships.

Two things worth knowing: once you are a member you stay a member, even if you change employers or retire. And if you had an account at the old IBEW Local Union 712 Federal Credit Union, it became a West Penn P&P account on May 29, 2020 — you may already be a member.

Not sure whether your employer participates? Call the credit union and ask. It is one question and they will answer it on the phone.

Gather what the card asks for

What you fill in

  • Street address, city, state, ZIP
  • Home phone listed or unlisted
  • Work phone

  • Employer
  • How you qualify “membership eligibility” — e.g. your employer, or the family member you are related to

  • A password you choose the word they will ask you for when you call about your account

The account itself

  • Account type share savings, checking, share certificate, money market or HSA
  • Individual or joint ownership
  • Joint owner’s details same information as yours, if you are adding one
  • Beneficiary — payable on death optional, but easier to do now than later

Do not e-mail this card to anyone. It carries your Social Security number, your driver’s license number and your date of birth. Hand it in at the office or mail it. The JATC never asks you for any of it.

Bring the money too — $50 opens the account and the credit union asks you to keep $100 in savings after that.

West Penn P&P Federal Credit Union is a separate organization from the Western Central Pennsylvania Electricians’ JATC. We put this page up because apprentices and members keep asking where the old Local 712 credit union went. Rates, account terms and eligibility are set by the credit union — confirm anything that matters with them directly.

Federally insured by the NCUA.
